An image of “iPhone 5C” packaging has been leaked online by a Chinese website WeiPhone. Apple has already been secretly developing its low-cost iPhone which will be debuting later this year. This image has made the rumor mills crazy and this low-cost could very well be called "iPhone 5C". According to me, the "C" stands for cheap. According to recent leaksthis new model will come in different colors and have rear shell made of plastic. Hit the jump to take a look at the leaked picture.

It is interesting to see that Apple used a similar naming convention for the iPhone 4S and iPhone 3GS device that came out in 2009. The “S” suffix stood for speed in 3GS and in the iPhone 4S, it was meant for Siri personal voice assistant. So it wouldn't come to us as a surprise if the latest model comes with a suffix of "C".

However, we just can't trust these Chinese manufacturers because we don't know what they might counterfeit next. As you point out from the packages above, they clearly resemble the plastic built of those leaked images and of the iPod touch 5th-generation.

Some blogs are saying the “C” stands for “Color” because it will be released in many different colors. Some are also speculating that it stands for “plastiC” or “polyCarbonate” because of its rear plastic shell.

Apple is going to release its first low-cost device later this year alongside the iPhone 5S as it hopes to conquer the budget model market that is now dominated by cheaper Samsung Galaxy devices.
