Jay Freeman aka Saurik, the creator of the unofficial jailbreak installer Cydia, has ported Cydia substrate to Android platform which was available for iOS since the last 5 years. As Android is an open source operating system unlike iOS, it will open new avenues for the rooting community to develop jailbreak tweaks and applications. A quick heads-up for Android users, Winterboard theming app is already available for download on the Google Play Store. Hit the jump for the download and installation instructions.

However, one of the basic requirements is that you need to have a rooted device. After that, you can easily download the substrate from Google Play store here and install the APK file. Kudos to Saurik as his hard work of years has finally paid off.

As I already own an Android device Sony Xperia ST21i Tipo, so I will be installing this substrate very soon. If you don't own an Android device, then this is a good reason to get one now. Surely, this port will allow the developers to develop 3rd-party apps, tweaks and utilities for the rooting community. Chpwn, a famous iOS hacker and jailbreak developer, along with Ryan Petrich, has already started making apps based on this framework.
